This exhibition brings together artists whose practices engage drawing and mark-making as methods of composition, pattern, and spatial thinking. Working across installation and material
processes, the works approach drawing not as a preparatory act, but as a way of organizing rhythm, structure, and attention within space. Mark-making functions here in conversation with the material itself.

The grain of wood, the weave of textiles, and the surface of ceramic forms are not treated as neutral supports, but as active patterns that shape the work. Rather than overriding these surfaces, the artists allow material characteristics to guide composition, letting existing textures and rhythms
inform how marks are placed, repeated, and arranged. Installation extends this logic beyond the individual object, allowing drawing to operate at the scale of the room.Through repetition, variation, and alignment, the works establish a shared compositional field where gesture, material, and structure remain in dialogue. Drawing emerges not only as an action, but as a framework shaped jointly by hand and substrate.

Aaron Chang is a Los Angeles-based painter whose practice spans drawing and non-traditional substrates/surfaces. Working specifically with charcoal and paint on wood panels, Aaron explores the figurative layering of the real and psychological experience, often with the inclusion of imagery from personal memory and references of war. Aaron received his BFA from USC Roski. Recent exhibitions include Good Bones at LAX is Here (2026) and Thesis Exhibition at the University of Souther California (2025).

Ken Higaki is a Los Angeles based artist originally from Kagawa, Japan, whose work explores the sexualization of raw emotion and the fine line between desire and violence. Recent exhibitions include Creature at So Too Gallery (2025) and Into the Jungle at the Sabbatikal Space (2025).

Mikio Mobuto Metoyer is a Los Angeles based mixed media artist whose emotional layered, materially rich paintings explore the interplay of memory, environment, and structure. His practice merges painting with architecture and organic matter, resulting in works that interweave personal memory, built environments, and the unpredictable rhythms of nature. Using primarily acrylic and acrylic market, Mikio creates a body of work that is both visually arresting and profoundly human. Mikio recently had a solo presentation I See Everything I Feel Everything at 7811 Gallery (2025).

Daeton Abalos Oclaray is a Los Angeles based interdisciplinary artist born in Hawai’i. His practice spans oil painting, charcoal drawings, and archival video, often extending into installation and material experimentation with surfaces such as raw canvas, linen, and found textiles. Drawing from his Filipino and Black American heritage, Oclaray’s work reflects on his family’s layered histories of migration, labor, and belonging. He holds a BFA from University of California Los Angeles. Recent exhibitions include Rooted at Sovern Los Angeles (2025) and Black Ppl I Know at Peri + Ren Gallery (2025).

Sammi C Wong is a Los Angeles based interdisciplinary artist who focuses on archiving intimate moments of identity, memory, and culture, exploring the relationship through acts of labor. Sammi’s work spans from fashion photography to abstract ceramic and sculpture arrangements, finding intersections between digital concepts that manifest into physical forms. Her personal practice allows for the process to inform her aesthetics, moving through experimentation, manipulation, and reconstruction to embody the unfolding of time.
