Celebrating over a decade of friendship, My Body is a Map of LA unfolds in the curator’s childhood home in Arcadia, where artists Paige Twyman and Audrey Perez have shared countless dinners, films, and late-night gossip. This intimate, site-specific exhibition reimagines the domestic space as both an artistic haven and a canvas of memory, housing the spiritual boulders of Paige’s escapist daydreams stemming from the Sierra Madre canyons and Audrey’s sludge-like nightmare-scapes summoned from the base of the Altadena mountains. 

Referencing Lana Del Rey’s Arcadia, this show explores the artists’ intertwined yet divergent visions resulting from Southern California’s spiritual landscapes.

Taking the crisp canyon air and silhouette around her as sustenance, Paige slides on vibrant oil paint with her wand to capture magical objects and creatures on earth. Channeling Timshel, her brushwork forges stories as timeless as California’s ancient rock formations, bridging abstraction and figuration in a sweeping expression of personal agency and redemption.

In contrast, Audrey’s work contends with the reality of paradise. Under the existential weight of Altadena’s shadowy terrain, her pieces illuminate an Absurd scene through her globs of cemented oil paint. Her dense, layered approach forms monument-paintings that entrap time inside the glossy paint, serving as psychological relics of both labor and memory.

Both artists, LA natives, present an extension of their body, mapping the unseen landscape of their experiences. Lana Del Rey admits she can’t stay, because she is “not from the land of the palms”, but Audrey and Paige will remain to traverse the ghostly calls of paradise.
