Weather Made to Order takes its title from a fictional film script in the Netflix Korean drama ‘We Are All Trying Here’. The exhibition approaches weather as a physical and psychological condition shared by everyone and owned by no one. Heat, humidity, light, and wind through texture and material presence.
At a time when climate and environment are increasingly felt through everyday bodily experience, the exhibition considers how materials can register atmosphere, temperature, and sensory change. Contemporary aesthetics has increasingly moved in this direction, from image to sensation, from what we see to what we feel through the body. The exhibition unfolds within that threshold.

The exhibition brings together works by Meeyoung Kim, Mary Lai, Tingying Han, and Jaime Pattison, exploring how materials generate distinct sensory climates through texture, translucency, layering, and void. Across painting, drawing, textile, leather, and sculpture, surfaces function less as fixed boundaries and more as responsive structures that absorb, circulate, retain, and diffuse environmental sensibility.

Tingying Han traces the texture of heated concrete surfaces onto paper, creating drawings that carry the residual warmth and pressure of urban space. Like traces left on asphalt during summer, her works transform the city’s surfaces into sensory records of temperature and contact.

Mary Lai’s sculptural works are built through the repeated layering of leather, revealing bodily movement and accumulated time through rhythm and repetition. Resembling melting summer objects, they carry both playful energy and tactile density.

Meeyoung Kim’s recent works introduce openings and perforations into the canvas, allowing air and light to move through the surface. Her paintings function less as closed images and more as porous structures shaped by circulation and breath.
Jaime Pattison’s translucent wall sculptures evoke the cool surface of ice, soap, glass, or plastic. Softly diffusing light, the works create moments of visual cooling within the space, subtly responding to surrounding atmosphere and temperature.

Weather Made to Order approaches art as something capable of producing atmosphere. The exhibition invites viewers to encounter temperature, airflow, density, and texture before meaning arrives, with each work felt first through the body.

Ting Ying Han (b. Taipei, Taiwan) lives and works in Los Angeles. Her work begins with a specific place and the people connected to it, tracing the ways memory continues to shape a site long after it has changed. Recent exhibitions include Heavy Metal at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and Moon and Start at the Walter N. Marks Center for the Arts. She is currently developing a permanent public artwork commissioned by Los Angeles County Arts and Culture. Han received her MFA from California Institute of the Arts and her BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Meeyoung Kim (b. South Korea) lives and works in Seoul. Known for her abstract paintings, Kim draws from the Eastern painting principle of Giunsaengdong (氣韻生動), often translated as the vitality or spirit that animates a work. Her paintings are built through a process of layering that allows forms to emerge and recede across the surface. Recent solo exhibitions include Momentum at S2A Space in Seoul and Ice Bath at Helen J Gallery in Los Angeles. In 2024, she participated in the Glenfiddich Artist Residency in Scotland. Kim received an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in London and an MFA in Korean Painting from Ewha Womans University.

Mary Lai (b. Los Angeles) is a Korean American artist based in Los Angeles. Her work builds narrative worlds that draw from personal histories and imagined spaces. Before focusing on her studio practice, Lai spent a decade in New York as an award-winning fashion accessories designer. She received a BFA in Graphic Design from Mason Gross School of the Arts. In 2025, she founded Allied Special Projects, an artist-led platform that creates opportunities for collaboration between artists and cultural organizations.

Jaime Pattison (b. Ontario, Canada) is an artist based in Los Angeles. Her work considers how private experiences become embedded within place and collective memory. In 2023, she co-founded DIVE Studios, an artist-run space in Detroit dedicated to exhibitions and public programming. Recent solo exhibitions include Securities at Middle Space and Afterimages at M Contemporary. Pattison received her BFA from the College for Creative Studies and is currently pursuing an MFA at California Institute of the Arts.
